Oxygen measurement in the feed water
INWATEC recently carried out an oxygen measurement in the feed water at a customer’s site. The aim of the measurement was to check the function of the deaerator from the feed water tank. Oxygen measurement in the feed water is a crucial step in ensuring the efficiency of deaerators and compliance with the guidelines for feed water in boiler operation. When carrying out these measurements, various aspects must be taken into account in order to obtain accurate and meaningful data.
Sampling point and cooling requirements:
The selection of the sampling point is of critical importance. It should be continuous and cooled to a temperature above 30°C, with the ideal method being to take the sample directly from the sampling cooler. This ensures the stability of the sample and thus reliable measurement results.
Diffusion-tight hose connections:
To ensure accurate measurements, the hose connections between the sampling point and the measuring device must be diffusion-tight. INWATEC takes care of the construction of the device and all necessary installations from the sampling point to the measuring device to ensure proper functioning.
Power supply:
The availability of a 230 V socket on site is required to operate the measuring device. This is a basic requirement for the smooth performance of measurements.
Depressurized draining and data storage:
Once the measurements have been completed, the sample is emptied from the device into the drain without pressure. The collected measurement data is saved in the device on a ring memory with a USB stick. This enables subsequent evaluation of the data records in the form of meaningful graphics. During the measurement, the current measured value in ppb O2 can be read on the display.
Duration of the measurement:
INWATEC recommends carrying out the oxygen measurements over a period of 5-7 days in order to obtain a comprehensive data basis.
Advantages for the customer: Carrying out the oxygen measurement enables the customer to check the degassing function of the feed water tank. This ensures compliance with the guidelines for feed water in boiler operation. In addition, the measurement offers the opportunity to optimize the deaerator and the dosing of oxygen binders. Of particular interest is the question of how the oxygen content behaves when the boiler system is shut down at the weekend and the system cools down. These findings are crucial for the efficiency and smooth operation of the system.
INWATEC is also able to carry out an oxygen measurement in your feed water. If required, we can offer you a holistic concept for chemical water treatment in order to be able to permanently comply with the limit values in your feed water.
