Wastewater treatment with special dispersion polymers
In addition to the INWATROL experts for breweries, INWATEC offers special wastewater products that meet the needs of the food industry (including breweries and dairies). Particularly notable is the diversity of dispersion polymers, which can be used especially in breweries or other food processing industries. A dispersion polymer is used in wastewater applications, for example to dry the biological sludge in a centrifuge, effectively precipitate it and remove solids in the wastewater. It is a synthetic polymer that is present in the form of a dispersion (small particles in a liquid) and is very effective in flocculating solids. The addition of a dispersion polymer allows the solids in the wastewater to sediment more quickly and settle to the bottom of the tank. This helps to separate solids and water and leads to more efficient clarification. The dispersion polymer helps to bind and precipitate suspended solids in the wastewater, resulting in a clearer liquid. This is particularly important for compliance with environmental regulations and quality standards for treated wastewater. The use of a dispersion polymer can help to make the cleaning process more efficient and reduce the operating costs for wastewater treatment. Improved flocculation and sedimentation can reduce the amount of chemicals and energy required. Overall, the use of a dispersible polymer helps to improve the efficiency, performance and cost-effectiveness of wastewater treatment plants by contributing to the removal of solids and increasing the quality of the treated water.
In wastewater applications, the dispersion polymer usually has to be introduced into the system via a process water flow, in other words it has to be “pre-diluted” to prevent pipes from blocking. The dispersion polymer can thus be used in its concentrated form, which already reduces the amount of product used per year. In this particular case, INWATEC does not use fresh water from the brewery pipeline, but uses the cleaned and flocculated waste water to thin the polymer. This also saves a lot of water and the dispersion polymer continues to perform as usual in the process. The exact dosage of the polymer is measured online to ensure effective but not excessive dosing. Here, the conductivity in the water is used to dose the polymer. INWATEC engineers adjust the dosage on site depending on the conductivity. To do this, the wastewater is measured without containing polymer. This conductivity is then used as the “zero value”. Different quantities of polymer are then added to the water in the laboratory test. Depending on the flocculation behavior and the conductivity, the dosage is adjusted and monitored using INWATROL expert.
This means that costs can also be saved here, as the wastewater product can be used in its concentrated form. Water is also saved as the thinner water is taken from the process itself for continuous use and no fresh water has to be used.
